As a young girl, I can remember loving beautiful old things; things with a history and a story to tell. I would try to imagine who might have loved that object before me and how and why they acquired it. I can thank my parents for this love and appreciation of old treasures, as they instilled this feeling in me early on.

My parents were always rescuing other people's castoffs and decorated their beautiful home that way. Yes, we had newly purchased things as well, but these very special, found pieces, made our home more interesting in my opinion. If the found treasure was broken, my father would repair it so it could find a place in our home.

My parents also supported many local artists, and would purchase beautiful art from them, most of which I still have today. I can't leave out weekend jaunts to estate sales, auctions and yard sales. Our pretties came from everywhere!

Many of these objects still surround me and bring back sweet memories as well as some life lessons. Both of my parents grew up during trying times, and appreciated everything they had. Waste was frowned upon. They learned to "up-cycle" and "repurpose" before it was fashionable. So, over the years, I have collected and acquired many beautiful treasures of my own. Some of those pieces I have purchased, and some I have rescued just as my parents did.

There comes a time when treasures should be passed on for someone else to love, and so, this is how The Vintage Gates came to be. I wanted to share some of the finds I have acquired with others that appreciate and love them just as much as I do. I have a hard time letting go of these "things" because I chose each and every one of them for a reason. I have also come to realize that part of the fun is letting go to make room for new treasures!

My hope is that my customers will find something in my shop that brings them as much joy as it has brought to me. The doors are always open at The Vintage Gates... happy treasure hunting everyone!
